Donald "Don" L. Wood

PIERCE – Funeral service for Donald “Don” L. Wood, 78, of Pierce will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce. Pastor Casey Lieneman will be officiating the service. Interment will be held at the Stanton City Cemetery in Stanton. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the family for a later designation. Don passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Accura HealthCare of Pierce Nursing Home in Pierce, NE. Stonacek Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Don was born on November 25, 1947 in Norfolk to Howard and Eleanor (Kuester) Wood. Don graduated from Stanton High School and then attended college at Wayne State College where he received his Bachelors of Science in Education. He would continue his education at Northwest Missouri State University where he would receive his Masters of Science Education degree. Don married Phyllis Mae Jeffries on May 2, 1970 in Ida Grove, Iowa. To this union 2 children were born, Andrew and Amanda. Don and Phyllis lived in Pierce where they were both teachers for Pierce High School. They were members of Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce where Don was also active in Bible studies, being a councilman, and also a lector. Don loved collecting baseball cards, gardening (vegetables and flowers), he was an avid sports fan cheering on the Pierce High School Bluejays, New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs. He was also the basketball scorebook keeper for 20 years. Don was the clerk of start for the Pierce High School track for over 20 years. He also helped with after school science camp for 8 years. Don and Phyllis loved to travel as well. Don is survived by his wife Phyllis Wood of Pierce, son Andrew (Jeana) Wood of Seward, daughter Amanda (Darrell) Fieldgrove of Grand Island, grandsons Aiden, Darrell Jr. “DJ”, Dayton, Chevy, and Dalton, sister Betty (Curt) Lezanic of San Antonio, TX, brother and sister-in-law Curt (Coleen) Jeffries of Wayne and nephews David (Karen) Wood and Bob Wood. Don is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Eleanor Wood, parents-in-law Curtis and Mona Jeffries, brother and sister-in-law Lonnie (Connie) Wood. Casket bearers will be Robert Christensen, Steve Rundell, Byron Wragge, Todd Wragge, Dan Thayer, and Dan Wragge.
